Burning Crusade Classic is definitely coming this year and as soon as the pre-patch of the Outland adventure goes online, an important decision awaits all Classic fans: stay and play TBC Classic, transfer to an era realm for WoW Classic, or pay to copy? On the official WoW website, Blizzard officials have once again explained exactly how the choice will work and what will happen to your characters depending on your choice. Here are the most important points.
Stay, switch, or clone?
- Once the preparation patch is live, you'll be able to choose between WoW Classic and Burning Crusade Classic in the Battle.net desktop app.
- WoW Classic will take you to the new Classic era realms with the most current phase of WoW Classic. This is the state the servers will remain at forever.
- The realms for Burning Crusade Classic, meanwhile, include all of the new game systems from Burning Crusade, including the Blood Elf and Draenei races, which will become available with the release of the prep patch.
- When you first log in with a character on one of these clients, you will be asked to confirm that you really want to activate that character in this version of the game. Once you have chosen a realm type, the clone of that character will no longer be available on the other client - unless you choose to "clone" it using an optional paid service.
- The cloning service allows you to experience Burning Crusade Classic while enjoying Classic content on the "era realms" with your old character.
- The clone is automatically created with the Burning Crusade Classic preparation patch, including friend lists, inventory, gold balance, items in the mailbox, and so on. However, it does not include any later progress and development of the character. So if you play your character from WoW Classic for several months after the release of the preparation patch and clone it at a later date, you will receive a clone without the progress of these additional months.
What happens to the servers?
All existing servers will receive patches with the new Burning Crusade Classic content. If you choose the new content, everything about your character will remain the same - realm, guild, and all - except that you will have access to Burning Crusade Classic and all of its updates.
If you choose to play WoW (Buy Now €14.99 )
Classic with your character, you will be able to play them on a new Classic era realm. These new realms are available in the Battle.net desktop app as a new client. Friends from your original realm who also choose to play on an era realm will be moved to the same realm as you. Your friends list will still be available no matter which realm you end up on.Realm names will remain the same for both Burning Crusade Classic and Classic era realms, and player characters will appear on both of these realm types in the exact state they were in before the preparation patch.
Once again in a nutshell
- On patch day, open your Battle.net desktop app and decide which game you want to play: Burning Crusade Classic or WoW Classic.
- Your existing characters will appear in both game types under your old realm names.
- Once you have chosen a game type, select a character and confirm your choice.
- If you wish to play your character on both realm types, you will have the opportunity to use an optional paid service to play with a clone of the character on both game types.
- Then all you have to do is log in normally and you can play.
