Those who have already purchased the heroic or epic version of WoW: Shadowlands can look forward to a character boost to level 120. However, many pre-orderers will have already noticed that the boost to maximum level is only available for the account for which Shadowlands was purchased. If the player has other WoW accounts, he must at least upgrade them with the "Heroic Edition" of Shadowlands to get further character boosts.
With this adjustment, Blizzard primarily wants to put a stop to the popular strategy - boosting heroes via discount promotions. Previously, those who wanted to quickly bring a character to maximum level on their main WoW account simply created a starter account and upgraded it with the basic version of the current expansion. The character boost was then available at a special price during Blizzard's discount campaigns for the respective WoW addon. For comparison: You have to pay 60 Euros for a normal character boost.
With Shadowlands, this little "detour" will no longer be available. Price cuts will probably only be available for the base edition of Shadowlands in the future, and this does not include a character boost.
On this topic, Blizzard again revised the official description for Shadowlands
:"World of Warcraft®: Shadowlands.
- The expansion World of Warcraft (buy now 14,99 € )®: Shadowlands will be available no later than December 31, 2020.
- In-game items and character upgrades are not available in World of Warcraft® Classic. The character upgrade can only be used on the WoW account for which it was purchased.
- Upgrading to Epic Edition will not re-grant in-game items if they were previously unlocked for your account.
- Requires World of Warcraft®: Battle for Azeroth®, Internet connection, Blizzard® registration, and Blizzard® Battle.net® desktop app to play.
- Includes VAT, where applicable."
Player feedback on this has been less than enthusiastic so far Some WoW fans, for example, have wished for clarification from Blizzard much sooner because they can't do anything with the character boost on their main account.
