When Sylvanas asks the jailer if he wants to free the count, the jailer replies that Denathrius has served his purpose and his help is no longer needed. It is exciting to see that the Banshee Queen assumes that Zovaal cares about his allies.
Sylvanas: Sire Denathrius has been taken prisoner. What is our plan to recover him?
Jailer: Every soul has its purpose. Denathrius has fulfilled his.
Jailer: We must forge our next weapon.
Sylvanas: He is not ready.
Jailer: Then a more direct approach is necessary. We have not come this far for you to falter now. You know what must be done.
Sylvanas' mine darkens as the dungeon master pulls a strange frost shard from the Whirling Nether (or another dimension). Looking at the anvil, you can clearly see that the Mawbound Blacksmith is working on a rune blade that strongly resembles Shalamayne, the legendary sword of the late King Varian Wrynn. A new weapon for the new Lich King?
Zovaal is following up by talking about how it's time to forge his next weapon. By this, he definitely means not only the new rune blade, but also Anduin Wrynn himself, who has been locked away somewhere in Torghast since the beginning of Shadowlands. Zovaal's impatience makes it clear that the young king probably plays an important role in the dungeon master's grand plan. His strong connection to the Light is the key to Zovaal's release from the Maw. But why does the jailer need the light, of all things? And are there parallels to Arthas at this point? The Prince of Lordaeron was once a paladin who fought for the Light. Originally, Arthas was supposed to free the jailer after his fall. But Zovaal's plan went awry and he had to resort to other pawns like Sylvanas. But is the banshee queen really as loyal to the dungeon master as she seems at the moment?
Doubts and remorse
Even when Sylvanas appears before Anduin with the corrupted version of Shalamayne and offers him the pact with the dungeon master for the last time, the High King remains steadfast. More. In the dialogue, Anduin manages to turn the tables. He realizes that Sylvanas is still trying to remain true to her principles and not impose on Anduin the fate she suffered as an undead herself. In the Third War, she had no choice whether to serve Death or not. Therefore, Sylvanas would prefer Anduin to choose death (as Arthas once did) of her own free will and not have her murder him.
Anduin: Ah... there she is again. You know, these endless lectures of yours...
Sylvanas: ... have failed to convince you. Regardless, the conversation is over. One way or another, we will have you.
Sylvanas: So I will offer this... one last time. Join our cause, or be made to serve.
Anduin: What kind of choice is that? Why even give me...
Anduin: ... It's the choice you never had. Despite all your grand designs, there's still some shred of your mortality haunting you. As if the Banshee Queen hasn't entirely eclipsed the Ranger-General.
Sylvanas: Don't.
Anduin: Now I understand why you brought me here. Why you tried so hard to persuade me. Because if you can get me to let go of hope, you finally can too.
Sylvanas: Enough!
But the king does not dream of giving Sylvanas this absolution. Quite the contrary. He even challenges the Banshee Queen. The Dark Princess must decide whether she will give up her free will and finally become a henchman of the jailer, or whether she will return to her former self and the ideals associated with it.
Sylvanas: Submit! You are only making this harder on yourself.
Anduin: Not harder on me... right now, you, with all the power... how would you use it?
Sylvanas: I've not come this far to falter now.
Anduin: Then why do you hesitate?
Anduin: Make your choice, Sylvanas Windrunner.
No redemption for Sylvanas?
WoW: Fate or free will? Sylvanas and Anduin in new video (1) Source: Blizzard WoW: Fate or free will? Sylvanas and Anduin in new video (2) Source: Blizzard Sylvanas' strange role in this big game again becomes a problem for the story, because her unquestioning loyalty to the jailer doesn't really fit the classic Sylvanas, who valued her freedom above all else. In Shadowlands, the banshee queen resembles her former tormentor Arthas. The imagery Blizzard chooses in the Torghast video speaks for itself. Sylvanas strikes the same pose with the rune weapon as Arthas once did with Frostmourne in the trailer for the second WoW (buy now €14.99 ) expansion
Wrath of the Lich King. How the first chapter of Shadowlands ends remains a mystery for now. After all, the video comes to an abrupt end at the most exciting point. In the end, the impression remains that Blizzard's authors are planning a redemption story for Sylvanas, similar to the story of Illidan Stormrage in WoW: Legion. However, given all the horrors the Dark Princess is responsible for, it's hard to imagine that Sylvanas can be redeemed at all. After all, she won't be able to return to Azeroth as leader of the Forsaken just like that. What paths remain open to the banshee queen?
Sylvanas' doubts as Anduin's executioner are also curious. The Dark Princess has already proven several times in recent years that she basically has no big problems with murdering mortals and then resurrecting them as undead.
Although we know almost nothing about Sylvanas' true intentions and Anduin's fate, the banshee queen could turn things around in the end and betray the jailer. Let's not forget that Sylvanas was able to deceive her masters in Warcraft 3 and then take them out one by one. The dungeon master is powerful, but he also has his weaknesses. As a prisoner, he relies on the help of his allies. What will happen if Sylvanas breaks her pact and Zovaal suddenly puts a spoke in his wheel?
