Torghast is the black tower that appears in the sky above Icecrown at the beginning of WoW: Shadowlands and where the mysterious dungeon master resides. Countless lost souls wait inside the eerie bastion. Most of these spirits are atoning there for their evil deeds, while others have been taken away to Torghast. In Shadowlands, our heroes can free some of these tortured souls from the dungeon master's clutches during the Torghast scenario.

Warning, lots of spoilers coming up!
WoW: Lost souls - these WoW celebrities we find in Torghast (Attention spoilers!) (2) Source: buffed One of the key events in Torghast is the rescue of the souls trapped in the countless cages or chained to their gruesome guardians. You'll find these tortured spirits all over the tower, and they take different forms. Sometimes you'll encounter a blood elf, sometimes a human or dwarf. Once you free the souls, they will grant you their final blessing Soul's Blessing. This is anima power, a currency that you will need for the pacts. The blessing also grants you a buff that increases your primary stats by one percent per freed soul. As mentioned earlier, you will mostly encounter generic souls of many different races in Torghast. However, some of these spirits belong to prominent Warcraft characters, such as the Lich King or the members of the Splendor Sea family.

(4) Source: wowhead Some alpha testers of Shadowlands have already been able to look around the higher floors of the black tower. On their adventure they met the souls of famous heroes and villains. Several ghosts are even officially not dead (yet?!). For example, one player encountered the souls of Jaina, Derek, and Tandred Prachtmeer in one of the corridors of Torghast. Jaina's and Tandred's spirits have the usual model from the game, while Derek Prachtmeer appears in his original human form.

Both brothers' hands are tied, while Jaina stands behind them and weeps

for them.

You can interact with the urns behind Jaina and click on them. In Torghast, you do this to get Phantasm through the urns, another currency that you use to unlock certain abilities in the tower. As soon as you click the urns behind Jaina, Derek and Tandred are killed instantly, and the mage cries out for the last time before disappearing in the next instant.

(5) Source: wowhead The whole theater could be either a kind of memory or a placeholder for the alpha phase. Nevertheless, the scene appears to be fully implemented, except for a few details. This could mean that at the beginning of WoW (buy now 14,99 € ) Shadowlands, many more well-known Warcraft celebrities will end up in the Shadowlands than previously thought. As we already know from the quest texts of Ardenwald, Tyrande will be one of the characters roaming the realm of the dead.

However, this does not mean that these characters are technically dead, after all, neither are our heroes. To explain: at the beginning of our adventure, we initially end up directly in the Maw, but as a powerful soul we can escape the pull of the Soul Mill and the Dungeon Master. So it's possible that many other heroes, like Jaina Prachtmeer, Thrall and co. also wake up in the Maw, but are later imprisoned in the Torghast. They are then in a state of purgatory, so to speak: they are not really dead, but tortured with various visions from their past and future. Jaina has already gone through a similar horror scenario during the Kul-Tiras campaign. The

time of death of the respective WoW protagonist also plays a role in Torghast. The balance between life and death has been disturbed since the last Burning Legion incursion. This means that some prisoners came to Torghast long before the events of Legion and Battle for Azeroth. One of these souls is Arthas, the Lich King. Here follow other legendary Warcraft heroes found in Torghast by Wowhead's dataminers:

  • Genn Greymane: No surprise, after all, the King of Gilneas will follow Sylvanas himself into the realm of the dead to get his revenge.
  • Nathanos Plaguecaller: The right hand of the Banshee Queen is one of the bosses in a Shadowlands dungeon/scenario. It is possible that his soul will end up directly in the Tower of Torghast after his defeat.
  • Thrall: The former warchief could be the Horde pentant to Genn Greymane and accompany the heroes of the red faction to the Shadowlands.
  • Garrosh: Thrall's successor took a lot of blame in the Horde Civil War in Mists of Pandaria and the war against Azeroth in WoD. It is no wonder that the orc's soul was imprisoned in the dungeon of Torghast after his death.
  • Ysera: Why the soul of the leader of the Green Dragonflight ends up in Torghast instead of in the Forest of Arden despite Elune's last blessing is unknown so far.
