The fact that the PvP scaling in WoW is broken is something we have already discussed several times: players with little or even no gear have advantages over players who have the best gear equipped under certain conditions. Even putting on sockets is avoided by some players because it drives up the hidden item level of the PvP scaling and basically makes you weaker. So far, though, it's only gotten extremely bored yet smart players like Rextroy to take advantage of PvP scaling and make some entertaining videos out of it.

Meanwhile, players are taking advantage of discarding equipment to deal more damage with certain attacks. For example, the monk has the option to inflict Touch of Death on the opponent, use Flying Snake Kick to get out of the fight, and discard his equipment just before Touch of Death expires. Discarding the armor causes PvP scaling to become active and Touch of Death does significantly more damage. As you can see in the video, the Monk does over 600,000 points of damage with Touch of Death using this trick.

Before and during BfA, many players didn't even know such a system existed. Now that it's making the rounds more and more and even monks on arena ratings of 2,000+ are taking advantage of the system, PvP scaling can't really find its way into Shadowlands in its current form. If it does, we're in for some wild times in PvP.
