You can also find out all the other important information in our separate article on the pre-event.

Azeroth's darkest hour has arrived.

When Sylvanas Windrunner destroyed the Helm of Domination, the dead were unleashed and are now blazing a trail of destruction through Azeroth, spreading the plague and turning the living into will-less cadavers. With each successive death, their numbers increase. The end of all life in Azeroth is at hand.

Answer the Call

Over the next two weeks, it will be up to you to answer the call to arms and protect the people of Azeroth against the Fallen. Players level 48 and above can take the quest "An Urgent Concern" and begin a quest line in their faction's capital city, where several key faction heroes will report on the effects of Sylvanas' actions.

During the first week of "The Tide of Death," the preparatory event for Shadowlands, you can gather information in the areas around Stormwind and Orgrimmar, which have since been overrun by the Scourge, and deliver it to the Argent Crusade in Icecrown. Together, you will then confront the vicious and resurgent Cult of the Damned and beat back the Scourge. Once you have completed "Advance the Effort," you will be able to complete daily quests in Icecrown. By continuing to support these heroic efforts, you can earn new rewards, including Argent Commendations, which can be used to purchase items such as equipment and pets that are only available during the event.

Tip: You can earn even more Argent commendations by looting Darkened or Pitchblack Scourge Stones from Scourge corpses. Happy Slaughter!

From the second week and until the release of Shadowlands, you'll be haunted by a sinister figure of unknown origin, whose presence will stir up the Scourge. It is up to you to stand shoulder to shoulder with the Argent Crusade against this herald from the realm of death that threatens all life in Azeroth. Completing "Only Shadows Remain" will give you access to additional daily quests, allowing you to earn even more rewards until the end of the Tide of Death event.

Temporary Rewards

You

can trade in your Argent commendations for a variety of rewards, such as new equipment that you're sure to use in the coming weeks as you travel to the Shadowlands. Alliance players can visit Armorer Renick in Stormwind, while Horde players should visit Armorer Lungren in Orgrimmar to purchase these special goods. Players from both factions can also trade their Argent commendations at the Argent Tournament. To do so, speak with either Crusader Adevald Ironbeard or Crusader veteran Aliocha Segard.

The Big Bad

Among the many willowy cadavers are some notorious undead that are once again striking fear into Azeroth. These rare elite enemies are located in Northrend and can drop gear at item level 100, which is the same as the gear from the Ny'alotha, the Awakened City (Normal) raid.

Tip: If such an enemy is near you, it will be indicated on the map with a purple skull.

You can also face Nathanos Pestrufer, the champion of the Banshee Queen, and make him pay for his crimes. He awaits you during the event in Marris' Settlement in the Eastern Plaguelands. When you defeat him, you'll be able to get various weapons and armor pieces with unique templates that are only available during this event. However, in order to finish off this powerful enemy once and for all, you'll need an entire army. When you defeat him, you will receive an equipment chest as a reward for completing the weekly world quest. The Shield Guard Equipment Chest contains template equipment that can only be collected during the event. So get it while there is still time!

Succumbs to the Scourge

A shipment of crates has arrived in Orgrimmar and Stormwind. According to reports, anyone who comes into contact with them will be infected. So stay away from them at all costs, and if you still can't resist the temptation, remember that it's only a matter of time before you too turn into a servant of the Scourge.

No one is safe from the Scourge, and the monsters it creates are a serious threat to the Horde and the Alliance. If you succumb to the Scourge, you will be turned into a zombie. Then you'll be able to attack your new enemies with different abilities and infect all those who fought alongside you when you were alive.

Zombie characters are no longer tied to their factions, but are allied with members of the Scourge, whether they have spent their lives fighting for the Horde or the Alliance. They can communicate with each other, though no longer with their former friends, and are marked as hostile.

Tip: If you want to regain your true form, you must ask an Argent healer for help or use the 'Zombie Explosion!' ability, which will cleanse your body of the plague, killing you and dealing high damage to enemies near you.
