About three weeks ago, we summarized what you can expect from the new Scourge invasion on Azeroth in the course of the pre-event for WoW: Shadowlands. Zombies attack players and NPCs alike, infect them and turn them into zombies as well. Exclusive abilities await as a "reward":
- Rend! - Deals physical damage and increases physical damage taken by five percent for 12 seconds.
- Full Slime! - Deals nature damage to enemies within two meters.
- Calling Whine - Calls up to four zombies to you. They must not be in combat.
- Stagger. - Increases the movement speed of nearby zombies by 100 percent for ten seconds to assist in catching food. Removes movement restricting effects or crowd control effects.
- Zombie Explosion. - Shatters into pieces, deals physical damage, and infects enemies within 15 yards.
On WoW's official forums, Kaivax announced a few hours ago that there will be a stress test for the Scourge event on the public test server today, September 04, at 17:00 our time, to put the freshly implemented build through its paces with as many participants as possible.
Speaking of the new build: According to Wowhead, the zombies in the new version should be significantly weaker than in the last test. For example, zombies now die immediately when they fall from a height of ten meters or higher. Ghoul NPCs now only stay alive for about a minute and won't attack players or other NPCs on their own, and if you want to attack ghoul NPCs, you'll have to enable PvP.
It'sunclear if Blizzard is making these mitigations to then gradually make the threat from the Scourge stronger over time - similar to past events of this type.
Meanwhile, Blizzard has added protection for newcomers during the event, by the way. Those who play through the exile receive the buff New Recruit, which makes you immune to the infections of the zombies and any plague effects. This is very necessary, as the new recruits will be sent through Stormwind or Orgrimmar for several quests after leaving the Exile.
