The developers at Blizzard are having a hard time finding the right design for the shaman in WoW: Shadowlands. After our first info roundup in June, first
theReinforcement Shaman was turned inside out once again, and now the Elemental Shaman is in for another drastic change.
In the official WoW forum, Community Manager Kaivax announced that after extensive testing, the offensive spellcasters will now keep the resource Maelstrom known from Battle for Azeroth after all. At first, the plan was to scrap maelstrom entirely and instead build the gameplay around building and mining the effect Discharge.
Over the course of alpha and beta testing, various changes were made to Discharge, and through these, the mechanic now feels almost exactly like Mahlstrom, according to the designers, except that there is no longer an easy-to-read resource bar, but instead a stackable buff. The developers have therefore decided to revive Mahlstrom and over the course of the next while link all remaining discharge mechan
icswith the new, old resource or redesign them.
In further, subsequent posts, the developers then still addressed questions from players (via Wowhead)
.
Important at this point: For reinforcement shamans, the return of Maelstrom is currently not planned! In addition, the jumps of Chain Healing should soon have a range of 15 meters again with the next build.
Now we want to know from you: What do you think about the return of Maelstrom for Elemental Shamans? Tell us in the comments!
