The sinister lich Kel'Thuzad was the henchman of the Lich King and already played a major role in Warcraft 3. Today, the villain is one of the most famous Warcraft characters ever. During his lifetime, Kel'Thuzad was a failed mage of the Kirin Tor who had a great interest in the forbidden teachings of necromancy. His eccentric nature and the rejection of his fellow mages eventually drove Kel'Thuzad into the arms of the Lich King, who summoned him to Northrend. As a loyal servant, the necromancer assisted both Lich King Ner'zhul and, later, Arthas. The
formerly Blue Dragon Saphiron was long the personal guardian of Arthas and Kel'thuzad. As a boss, the Frostwyrm is just as iconic as his two masters. And surprise surprise, Saphiron's name was found in the latest Shadowlands build. At the moment, unfortunately, there are no exact details as to what role he will play in WoW: Shadowlands. Once upon a time, Saphiron was a powerful servant of the leader of the Blue Dragonflight Malygos. Saphiron challenged Arthas in Warcraft 3 and was defeated. The Death Knight revived him in Northrend as a Frostwyrm.
Although we don't know exactly where to find Saphiron in Shadowlands, Wowhead's dataminers have at least confirmed that an NPC with his name exists. There is even a new dragon model, but it resembles Nythendra from Emerald Nightmare. This model is probably a placeholder.

Perhaps the developers didn't choose the new undead dragon form for Saphiron for nothing, though. It's obvious that Saphiron will most likely appear in Maldraxxus alongside Kel'Thuzad. The lich will definitely be the focus of one of the two Maldraxxus scenarios. The Necrolords campaign is definitely going to be exciting!

The new model of Kel'Thuzad in WoW Shadowlands. Source: Wowhead But does the return of Kel'Thuzad and Saphiron to Shadowlands mean that Arthas will appear as well? It is hard to imagine that the fallen prince will not play a role in the battle for the Shadowlands. We must not forget that Arthas even reduced the elven kingdom of Quel'Thalas to rubble in order to resurrect Kel'thuzad as a lich. So the connection between these two Warcraft characters is very close, and Kel'thuzad has always been loyal to the Lich King. It is possible that the Lich in WoW (buy now 14,99 € ): Shadowlands wants to settle his debt to Arthas and is looking for a way to free the soul of the former Lich King from Torghast. We already know that Arthas has been lingering somewhere in the dungeon of the dungeon master since his death in WotLK. Wowhead's dataminers had already discovered his name in the alpha data of Shadowlands.
Arthas' comeback would be a true sensation for the story of Shadowlands! How will he react to Sylvanas, Bolvar and his old companions like Uther and Jaina Prachtmeer? It is clear that his fate is closely tied to the history of the Lich King. So it's only a matter of time before we hear from Arthas in the next expansion.
