theory is that some features in the game are connected to a long grind because men in suits at Activision Blizzard dictate how much time a player has to invest in WoW (buy now 14,99 € ). Only when a certain number of players have invested a certain amount of time are catch-up mechanics implemented. Because more playing time means more subscriptions and thus more money for the company. So the developers of Blizzard Entertainment (note: Activision Blizzard is not the same as Blizzard Entertainment!) themselves are said to have their hands tied. In his example, WoW's biggest streamer explicitly addresses the sideline of archaeology, but his theory can be extended to other features in WoW as well.

Whether you believe in such a conspiracy or not is up to you. However, you have to ask yourself what went wrong at Blizzard before and in BfA. Only WoW Patch 8.2 felt like it had been planned through. Everything else was thrown onto the servers in what felt like a hurry. The biggest feature at the beginning of the expansion (Azerite items) was only on the PTR for two weeks, was deemed too bad by the community, and was still pushed to the live servers in the same form. Essences were a Twink-unfriendly system from the start. Only after weeks of pleading from the community did they make the essences semi-character overlapping. It was similar with the currency for legendary items at the end of Legion. But why is something like this always implemented way too late?
