The battle for the Shadowlands is on! The Dungeon Master makes his next move in Patch 9.1, attacking the Arden Forest and the Winter Queen. The end of the battle is marked by a phenomenal video in which Sylvanas and Tyrande finally cross blades. But there's more at stake than the life of the Banshee Queen; in the battle, we also learn about Nathanos.

The clash of the titans
Looking into Tyrande's deep blue eyes, one might think that the moon goddess also has an old score to settle with the jailer. Source: Blizzard Sylvanas taunts Tyrande. Before the Banshee Queen disappears into the mist one more time, she warns the Night Warrior that the overwhelming power Elune gave her will not last. Source: BlizzardThe duel we see in the video is terrific! Both elf ladies represent two opposing forces. They represent the battle between Zovaal and the moon goddess Elune. Night Warrior Tyrande reaches the pinnacle of Elune's power in her battle with the Banshee Queen. Yes, this time the Night Elf puts all her eggs in one basket and is even willing to sacrifice her life for revenge against Sylvanas. We recommend you watch the video with subtitles, then you will be able to understand exactly the words that Tyrande shouts in Darnassian during the fight. It's hard to tell when the Night Warrior is being herself and when Elune is speaking out of her.
Though it appears that Sylvanas will succumb to Tyrande's superior force, this fight is just another move in the Banschee Queen's grand game of intrigue. The duel was a feint to push the Night Warrior into the abyss of madness. In fact, had Elune not personally intervened later, Sylvanas' mission to destroy Tyrande would have been successful. However, the Tear of the Moon Goddess was able to prevent the catastrophe.
The jailer hides from Sylvanas that Nathanos is dead. Source: BlizzardSylvanas isn't always as ice-cold as she likes to make us believe. In the video we see a particularly exciting scene in which the Banshee loses her composure for a few seconds. Namely, when Tyrande mentions the execution of Nathanos. Sylvans is surprised by the news that her most loyal servant is dead. The Night Warrior notices this and adds to her words by saying that Sylvanas' master (by which I assume she means the dungeon master) has been keeping secrets from her.
At the end of the WoW novel Rise of the Shadows, which connects the BfA and Shadowlands stories, Sylvanas sends Nathanos away. Her orders are for him to wait for her in the Plaguelands. Nathanos' reaction, however, makes it clear that he knows full well what fate awaits him. As bitter as it is for him, he must distract our heroes to buy time for his queen to complete her mission. During the WoW Shadowlands pre-event, Nathanos appeared for a short time as a world boss at his old estate in the Eastern Plaguelands. He taunted the Horde and Alliance heroes, challenging them to battle. In the end, Tyrande struck down the Dark Ranger.
Lies and deceit
Torghast, Maw, and Ardenwald. Sylvanas doubts the dungeon master's vision for the third time in the fight against Tyrande. Will she continue to follow Zovaal or turn her back on him? Source: buffed Good, Sylvanas expected Nathanos to make a great sacrifice. Even if the banshee expected him to die, she was sure he would follow her into the maw. However, since Nathanos hadn't shown up anywhere yet, she had to assume he was still alive. Sylvanas and Nathanos share a long history, the Banshee Queen expected them to be reunited in death. It seems that the jailer intercepted Nathanos' soul, perhaps to use him later as some sort of leverage against Sylvanas. This is at least what Steve Danuser, WoW's Principal Narrative Designer, hinted at in a recent interview. We also know from the quest line with Uther that the villain has a whole collection of damned souls. Where exactly Zovaal keeps these shattered souls, even Sylvanas doesn't know.
The Primus Returns
Two more cutscenes from the game show us the return of the Primus and another epic battle between the Lords of Maldraxxus and Zovaal. We are able to free the Primus from Torghast as part of the quest line for Korthia. In the second video, we see that the Primus can definitely take on the Dungeon Master. This isn't much of a surprise, after all, the Primus beat Zovaal once before a long time ago. Without Anduin's help, the Dungeon Master wouldn't have been able to capture the Primus' seal so easily. The big question is whether the Primus can stop the Dungeon Master one more time.Support buffed - it will only take a minute. Thank you!
