The pre-patch of WoW: Burning Crusade Classic is out, and while countless players are currently leveling up their newly created Blood Elves or Draenei, other players are hitting the Battlegrounds to earn powerful Rank 13 and 14 items for their characters via Honor and Battleground Tokens.
Yesterday, the author of these lines belonged to the second faction and had more fun in the battlegrounds than he had in a long time:
- Wait times were noticeably shorter on Hordeside than they had been in previous months.
- There were only two encounters with server-only groups, against which there were quick defeats. Almost all other games were won.
- There was a pleasing amount of honor per win. In the evening there were still enough honor points to buy the mace of the Supreme Warlord. The motivation was high to play a lot of PvP in the next days as well.
And then Blizzard came along and put a hotfix package on the live servers last night that, among other things, adjusted the bonus honor for battlegrounds. In a post on the official forums, community manager Kaivax explained:
- The developers found a bug, the bonus honor received should actually be lower by a factor of 10. That's why we made the hotfix.
By a factor of 10 less ... in fact, instead of almost 3,000 honor per victory, now only about 300 honor per victory. Of course, the losers are much worse off at the end of the game. Especially when you consider that the pre-patch phase only lasts two weeks.
Criticism from the community
One look at the Classic Reddit section is enough to see that this change is not going down too well. Among other things, players criticize that the costs are now out of proportion to the honor earned. For people who also have to work in between, it is now hardly possible to earn even single PvP parts during the two weeks.

And even in in-game chat, the mood is currently lousy during Battleground games, the motivation of many players at the bottom. At the same time, there are players who are happy that you now have to invest significantly more time for the epic PvP items. What do you think? Did Blizzard overdo it, or is it just right that not everyone will be running around with rank 13 and 14 items in two weeks? Let us know in the comments!
