WoW: The free mount dice have fallen: Urtum moves into our possession

Update from September 19, 2020:
A few hours ago, the voting finally ended. In an official Blizzard post, Community Manager Kaivax thanks the hundreds of thousands of voters and announces the start of the design work on the wandering Urtum. This free mount will be in the possession of all Shadowlands buyers in the course of the coming year.

• 33 percent: Wandering primordial
• 19 percent: Curious caterpillar
• 18 percent: Sailing magic foil
• 18 percent: Glibberous slimebucket
• 12 percent: Nerubian hawkmoth

The developers at Blizzard Entertainment launched a call to the community during the night from Friday (September 4, 2020) to Saturday (September 5, 2020). In the mount contest presented here, WoW-enthusiastic mount collectors can now bring one of five mounts to life. The winning mount will be developed at the beginning of next year and will be made available for free to Shadowlands buyers alone.

Meanwhile, more and more fan concepts of the new mounts are trickling in. We've expanded the post with the four render mounts from the Warcraft engine by Twitter user "Stiven"

You now have the choice between

• ...a wandering urtum, which is as huge as it is overgrown. If you've always wanted a monstrous stomping mount then this is your chance.
• ...a sailing magic foil. Fans of mage class mounts will take a liking to the flying tome.
• ...a nerubian swarmer. Those who enjoyed the instances of the Wrath-of-the-Lichking expansion will hardly want to miss this mount.
• ...a curious caterpillar. Unlike Ottfried Fischer's caterpillar in "The Great Crawl", however, it is unlikely to become a "beautiful butterfly".
• ...a slimy mucus puddle. The slime puddles of Plaguefall come to life - put on gloves, anyway.

What does the free WoW mount look like?

No one knows at this point. However, creative minds on Reddit have already thought about how it might look based on the description. What do you think about these sketches?

The development process is still in the brainstorming phase - therefore the developers point out that both the name and the description of the mounts could change

Voting for this ended on September 18, 2020. In the European (as well as American and Chinese) language area, the wandering urn got the most votes.

Wandering Urtum

Not all Urtums are interested in war or doctrines, some just want to travel the world! The Wandering Urtum is a huge and leafy mount. If you climb on its back and hold onto its branches, it will trudge off with you to explore.

Sailing Magic Foliant

This oversized tome was found in the forgotten depths of the Dalaran Library, flapping wildly around the room. Open this book imbued with arcane energy and sail with it on a magical adventure.

Nerubian Gusher

When the Helm of Domination was destroyed, the Nerubians under the control of the Lich King were unleashed upon the world. Some of them were captured by the Argent Crusade and turned over to his Black Blade allies in order to draw them to their side. Now, with their spidery claws, they serve as mounts and hunt the undead raging in the frozen tundra of Icecrown.

Curious Caterpillar

A curious caterpillar found its way into the Heartland one night in the Valley of the Four Winds and gorged itself on the oversized vegetables. When the Pandaren of Halfhill awoke the next morning, they found a massive slumbering caterpillar amidst their half-eaten crops. This friendly worm is too large to become a butterfly, but it is just the right size for a mount.

Glibberous Slime Seed

Numerous wobbly creatures emerged from the slime puddles of Plaguefall, including this gooey kitten.

Once our artists have completed and saddled the mount for you, it will be added to the mount collection of all players who have Shadowlands enabled on their account in the first quarter of 2021
