Anyone who currently logs into WoW is likely to do so rather voluntarily, after all, there is hardly any reason for endless farming in patch 9.2

. Instead, everyone can play exactly what they enjoy. So there's really no reason to have tears in your eyes when you log in. Nevertheless, more and more players have noticed in recent weeks that they are greeted directly by their character with heartbreaking weeping and the crying emote.

Since this phenomenon first appeared a few weeks ago, many suspected an April Fool's joke by the developers or one of the addon authors. However, the crying when logging in persisted until today.

Why does my character howl when I log in?

The answer to this is as simple as it is inconspicuous.

  • The howling is due to the gem Elegy of the Eternal, which can be captured in the Mausoleum of the First at the Prototype Pantheon.

The tooltip says that you will weep before the Eternal Ones and pledge yourself to their service. However, this is easy to overlook, as it has no effect on your character's performance.

In addition, the crying emote should actually only be triggered when the item is created. However, due to a bug (or a feature) it also triggers regularly when logging in. And now that more and more players are gradually using this extremely popular trinket, the "problem" is naturally occurring more and more frequently.

The really curious thing is that not all races seem to be affected. While Night Elves and Blood Elves seem to be crying their hearts out, other races like Dwarves only show the animation. Have you ever wondered why you always hear your character crying when you log in - or have you never noticed this before? Or do you not own the aforementioned gem, Elegy of the Eternal?
